🏁Max Verstappen wins the Canadian GP, under pressure from Carlos Sainz, who followed him close until the last corner. Lewis Hamilton is back on the podium, taking home 3rd place.
The race didn’t even start and Tsunoda was already offered a $300 fine for speeding in the pit lane.
All drivers started on Mediums except Bottas, Perez, Norris, Stroll and Leclerc, who are on hards.
🚥“IT’S LIGHTS OUT AND AWAY WE GO!”🚥 We are racing in Montreal.
LAP 1- Verstappen keeps the lead.
-a duel between Hamilton and Magnussen causes the Haas damage to his front wing.
-Schumacher drops to 8th place after being overtaken by Ocon and Russell.
On Lap 3, Sainz activates the DRS and passes Alonso for second place.
Bottas was shown a black and white flag in lap 7, and Magnussen was shown a black and orange flag for the wing damage for which he pits at the end of lap 8.
If the exit from qualifying wasn’t enough, Perez picked another issue this time with his gearbox for which he had to go out of the race, causing the first virtual safety car🟨. Lots of drivers took this opportunity to pit for hard or medium tyres. Sainz leader.
🟨Safety Car ended on lap 10. We had a battle between Ocon and Hamilton but Hamilton activates the DRS on the straight and passes him for P5.
Leclerc coming from P19, he is now P12 after he passes Norris in Lap 14. Verstappen past Alonso with the DRS putting him second just a few seconds behind Sainz.
Lap 16- Albon and Bottas duel while Leclerc holds behind them. After a few laps, Bottas attacks and passes the Williams driver and so does Leclerc which puts Albon in P12.
Mick Schumacher pulled off on lap 19 which caused another Virtual Safety Car🟨 and his possibility to get his first points in Formula 1. Again the drivers took the opportunity to change their tyres. McLaren asked both drivers to pit which caused Lando Norris a slow pit stop which sent him to the back of the grid. Sainz pitted just as the VSC ended and rejoined in P3 just ahead of Hamilton. Alonso still hasn’t pitted.
Sainz gets passed Alonso again on lap 23. The Alpine driver finally pitted on lap 29, dropping down to the seventh place.
We are halfway through in the Canadian Grand Prix.🇨🇦
Latifi had a slow stop on lap 42 and is now last in his home Grand Prix. Leclerc pits as well but unfortunately dropped down 4 places- now 12th place.
Verstappen pits in lap 44 and rejoins just behind Hamilton but easily gets through with DRS activated. Hamilton is then asked to pit. Sainz is the leader by 10s.
Leclerc past Ricciardo and Tsunoda.
4 laps later (lap 49) Tsunoda sends his Alpha Tauri into the wall as he exits the pits. 📻“Sorry, I am out”📻 was his message on the radio. 🟨Yellow flag and this time normal safety car for a few laps🚖. Sainz pits and gets a new set of Hards to follow Verstappen.
Safety car ending🟢 in lap 55, DRS gets enabled in lap 57.
3 laps to go.
Sainz follows Verstappen really close with 0.500s behind but he loses the advantage on the last lap.
